Friday 3/8:

Gold Sprints, Silent Auction, Pre-Party
Sponsored by: The Mobile Social, New Belgium Brewing, Whole Foods, Sevananda, Fallen Arrows

BHBP has teamed up with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition’s Mobile Social to start out the weekend.  The ride will begin at 6:30pm from Woodruff Park downtown and end at Fallen Arrows HQ (840 Dekalb Ave).  This is a no-drop social ride with a 10mph average speed.

Starting at 8pm will be a cookout, silent auction, and gold sprints.  Our volunteers will be grilling for participants, including vegan options, alcoholic beverages will be provided to those of age by our sponsors, and nonalcoholic options will be available as well.

We will be hosting a silent auction to sell off some nicer donations that have come in over the last few months.  Highlights include a set of Zipp 404 wheels, alloy Cannondale race bike, and carbon Trek road race bike.

Ending the night will be the gold sprints race event starting at 9:30pm.  This race pits friends up against each other on 1000 meter track bike sprints on stationary rollers.  This adrenaline pumping race consists of 30-40 seconds of racers sprinting their hearts out to be the first across the virtual finish line.  Prizes will be awarded to the fastest three men and fastest three women of the night.

Saturday 3/9:

Scavenger Hunt, Benefit Concert, Skids and Tricks
Sponsored by: The Basement

The scavenger hunt is the main event of Broken Hearts and Bicycle Parts and consists of a series of checkpoints located around Atlanta that each team must visit before ending at the Basement in East Atlanta Village.  Each checkpoint will include a zany task that teams complete in order to have their manifest signed off so they can move on to the next checkpoint.  This scavenger hunt will test the knowledge of Atlanta streets and include several locations off the beaten path.  Partners are required and special prizes will be given to the team with the best costume.  We will pair up individual racers with partners if necessary.

Participants will need to meet at Sopo (586 Woodward Ave) at 3:00pm.  At 4:00pm racers will be alowed to begin the scavenger hunt so be sure to arrive early in order to plan your route ahead of time.

Teams will need to arrive in East Atlanta Village by 7:30pm for the award ceremonies, skids and tricks competitions, and benefit concert at The Basement (1245 Glenwood Ave)

While scores are being calculated individuals may compete in a series of competitions including track stand competitions, the track-stand race, longest skid, and more.

Prizes will be given to: Top scoring coed team, top scoring male team, top scoring female team, top scoring SS/fixed, top scoring nonstandard bike (tall bikes, recumbents, tandems, dodekacycles, etc), DFL, best spirit, best costume, farthest travelled, and youngest team.

Ending the night will be special showcases by Snake Shark and the Broken Heart, Palaces, Highlander, and Baby Baby at the Basement and all teams will get into the show for free.  Benefit concert will be 18+.  Music will start after 8pm.

Sunday 3/10:

The Alleycross, Brunch, and Bike Movies
Sponsored by: Stone Soup Kitchen, Monday Night Brewing, Sevananda

BHBP always ends with a brunch where teams can wind down after spending the rest of the weekend on two wheels.  We will be screening bike movies and cartoons on the projector at the shop and swapping stories from the two days prior.

Brunch will start around 12:30pm and last as long as people want to hang out. Stone Soup is putting together a special menu of take-out food to be eaten at Sopo.

As the brunch winds down the true gluttons for punishment will show up for the third and final race of the weekend, the brutal alleycross race.  Wheareas the scavenger hunt requires knowledge of the best routes around Atlanta, the alleycross puts racers on a fixed course route running across pavement, dirt, grass, and cobblestone roads around East Atlanta.  The alleycross will begin with a parade lap to view the course and then will consist of a 45 minute sprint to the end with a special surprise on the last lap.

Alleycross participants will need to arrive around 2pm and the parade lap will leave at 3pm.

Following the race will be another cookout and cold beer for participants of age.
