A Muddy End

image

The 2014 Georgia Cyclocross season has ended and it’s taken a week to clean off all the mud and write a recap.

The season finale was a weekend of races. It had rained on Friday night and continued into Saturday. That left the course with deep puddles of water to start and was churned up mud at the end of Saturday. This made for some more great races as different racers moved to the front of the pack. You have to love the mud.

On Sunday the rain had stopped leaving the race a peanut buttery mess of fun. Even before the day started, the mud had claimed several rear derailler hangers. But it was a dry and sunny day which made for great races and super fans cheering racers on.

The awards followed, medals awarded, prizes given away. As the weekend ended, SoPo had 2 wins and a series title. More importantly, folks got to know SoPo. Folks donated to SoPo. SoPo racing was promoting SoPo through mud, sweat, high fives, and friendly smiles.

So the season is done and we’ll be so looking forward to next season.

Mudfest Racing at Serenbe

image

This past weekend the Georgia Cyclocross Series visited Serenbe Farms in Palmetto, GA. Rain was predicted and it came. It was also chilly which made for cross-like weather and a cross-like course. It was muddy.

There were parts of the course that most people didn’t even attempt to ride and those that did were cheered on. The mud made a big difference changing up the results as the ‘mudders’ had a chance to shine.

The bike wash was a busy place. The crowd was lively throughout the day. Even in the rain, cyclocross finds its fun.

Thanks to Peachtree Bikes for a great event. Here’s to wishing every race was like this.

The series closes out at Dingo Cross in Baldwin, GA with racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Cold Racing At Boundary Waters Park

image

The SoPo Race Team made the trek out to Douglasville and Boundary Water Park for this past weekends Georgia Cyclocross Series races. It was a cold day but that didn’t stop some great racing and fun times.

Power sucking grass and technical sections challenged most riders. There were a lot of new faces to motivate folks to keep riding hard. From one hill, fans could see almost all of the race. The fun was gathered there.

The season is coming to an end soon. Serenbe race this weekend followed by a break for Thanksgiving and then a weekend of racing up in Baldwin, GA. If you want to come out to see some great racing, this weekend at Serenbe is a good place to be. We can lend you a cross bike if you want to try racing.

Thanks to the folks involved with this past weekends Boundary Waters race. We all enjoyed it.

Out By Augusta

image

The SoPo Cyclocross team took a trip to Patriots Park by Augusta to race the 7th race of the Georgia Cyclocross series. The trip didn’t disappoint. The course was described as Euro, not knowing what that meant, everyone still had a ton of fun.

While attendance was smaller than usual, the compact layout made for great viewing at different parts of the course. There were more photographers than I remember for any race and there was even a news crew.

Thanks to the race promoters, volunteers, fans, and racers for Sunday. Looking forward to the next race in Douglasville and Boundary Waters Park.

Fun In The Sun

image

Sunday at Grant Park for the Georgia Cyclocross Series races was pretty awesome. The sun was out. Racing was good. We got some folks trying out cross. Fans came out. It was a whole lot of fun.

SoPo set up a tent for folks to relax in, so folks can come by and ask about SoPo. Grant Park is our neighborhood and we’re glad we had a chance to be a part of the race.

It was a race and it was an even bigger social event. This was very well attended by racers and fans. We hope it continues to be a yearly fixture in Grant Park.

Thanks to the race promoters, the Litespeed-BMW team, and the L5 Flyers team for letting SoPo set up a tent. Thanks to the volunteers, fans, and racers for coming out, helping out, and being a part of the day.
