Better Block Project at Turner Field July 28th:
“Better Block is a community revitalization project and urban design exhibit. The project demonstrates how temporary streetscape improvements, bicycle accessibility, pop up businesses, local art and street life can improve vitality, create connections and generate a thriving community of commerce and interaction.
In many cities, the neighborhoods surrounding professional sports stadiums offer a variety of things to do before and after the games; unfortunately, Turner Field lacks this quality. In an effort to illustrate how the area around Turner Field could benefit from more businesses and amenities, the event will be located amongst the vacant buildings on Georgia Avenue, in the parking lot between Reed St and Terry St.
The Project will be outfitting the area with pop up businesses, street furniture and greenery in order to create an environment that feels permanent and inviting.
Other pop up shops include:
Atlanta Institute of Stitches and Crafts
Sopo East Atlanta Bike Co-op
WonderRoot’s Index Art Gallery”
And SoPo could use your help this weekend for the Better Block Project
The Better Block Project is coming up on Saturday and we need some people who can come out and help table. We’ll be running a mobile repair shop and talking to people about how we serve the community and keep people on bikes.
The Better Block Project is a smaller, more localized, Atlanta Streets Alive that will be showing the fun things that could be right around the corner from our sports arenas but instead we choose to build more parking lots.
The event is officially from 12pm-9pm but things are going to be dying down rapidly after the start of the game at 7pm. It’ll be a chill afternoon hanging out underneath our tent talking to people about bikes.
If you are free on the 28th and would like to come help out at the Better Block Project, please fill out the form below.
Thank you!
