5th Street bike lane connector project: Ribbon cutting, bike ride and city expo: Friday Oct 12 at 12 pm
As you may have seen, construction of the bike project at 5th Street & West Peachtree is underway! Most of the major pieces are complete, including two bike ramps and the “Copenhagen Left.”
Next Friday the City of Atlanta is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Reed slated to give remarks.
Let’s pack the house with bicyclists to demonstrate to the Mayor and the City the support for more, high quality bicycle infrastructure improvement projects like this one in the City of Atlanta!
Where: Plaza at 5th and West Peachtree
When: 12 pm Friday, October 12
Ride your bike if you can, and Georgia Tech will also have bikes available for those who want to test it out. The ribbon cutting will be followed by a ceremonial ride to City Hall, where the city’s first Bike Expo will take place from 1-3 pm.
This Sunday, Atlanta Streets Alive returns with a 5 mile loop!
Two miles of North Highland plus one mile of Virginia Avenue plus just about two miles of the brand new Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail means we will have almost FIVE miles of car-free community space to ride, walk, play, dance and rock and roll. Expect bikers, runners, and walkers interacting with dancers, yoga masters, street hockey, four-square, hop-scotch, belly-dancing, bike polo, double-dutch, zumba, capoeira, and so much more along the open streets.

And if you live too far to bike to work, try hopping on a bus with your bike. So easy, a zombie could do it (video proof here).
